Bryan Rojo’s reflection on the class presentation

My experience

The topic for the class presentation was how we as people can become better world class citizens. The group that I am in is group one for this presentation. There were many discussions that we had before we were able to all settle with our topics because of how many different ways we can change things in our lifestyles to make us a better world class citizen. The topic that obtained my attention was being respectful of each and everyone’s ideologies and upbringing. The reason why this topic for me is so crucial is because so many things happen around the world that could’ve been avoided with simply knowing and respecting other ideologies and upbringing. This presentation was one that I was very much looking forward to since of all the events leading up to it. Unfortunately, the day of the presentation I had just left work and was stuck in the never ending dreadful traffic that the Palmetto experiences. Because of that misfortune I was unable to present and had to pass on my presentation to my classmate Alexander who did a great job presenting my side of the presentation.

Several conversations led up to picking who is going to do which subject for the presentation. The only two issues I believe my group and I went through was all deciding which attributes make a person a better world class citizen and who is going to do what. We had several different ideas being thrown out by all of us who participated in group one things like moral values. We all had to just take a breather to just have everything coordinated and everyone knew exactly what part of the presentation they had to focus on. After all of the commotion we were all able to finally be ready for the presentation.

The second presentation was mainly focused on what cuisines can do for humans. Food can bring people together from all walks of life. They presented dishes from different ethnicities and how food carries such an importance to us. I learned that sharing your food traditions with others is a great way to teach others about my culture. This presentation made an impact on myself to not be so picky with my food and to go out and try something different. Being an absolute food connoisseur myself I very highly stood by what they were saying. Everything that they said about food bringing people together and the urgency to give other countries favorite dishes a try all made sense to me, so with that being said this was unquestionably my favorite presentation for becoming a better world citizen. Also, they spoke about clothing and how every culture has a different outlook on how clothes should be worn and what it represents when being worn by a person. I learned from this part of the presentation that clothing has many different meanings and how colorful other cultures' clothing can be. This part of the presentation reminded me of how beautiful and elegant the clothing in Indian weddings are. Overall, this presentation was fantastic. They all spoke with much confidence and it definitely seemed like they all enjoyed their subjects very much.

The last presentation was the third group's presentation and they spoke about things that are currently extremely relatable to myself. Their main focus was about spreading awareness and ways that we can contribute to the communities around us to make us better world citizens. They began to talk about the everyday struggles that students like myself deal with when it comes to quizzes, homework, and studying. Their reasonings and their statements about this ongoing dilemma was spot on. For example, I currently have different stresses on my mind running around like a greyhound at a dog race. The things that I mostly deal with are primarily school and having time to do everything that I possibly can to achieve my goals in education. This is hard to do when I have a full time job Monday through Friday and then have to go give construction job estimates on weekends. Stress is the root of all evil in my own opinion. People fall into so much stress that they begin to picture the world in a negative light. This group spoke about ways to combat this feeling and about stress free options that we can take to not only help ourselves but to help others that are struggling with the stresses of life in general. Additionally, they did not just talk about my age range, they also spoke about elderly people and their struggles in life. This is something that I have seen first hand since I used to do security at a nursing home center for elderly people. During that time I encountered many of elderly people that had all types of mental problems and were difficult to deal with due to those problems. The elderly people at the nursing home always seemed to be misunderstood. The nurses that worked there would brush off their troubles by saying “oh that's just them acting up” when in reality they needed help and someone to understand what they are going through.

In conclusion, this class presentation taught me a lot of things to become a better world class citizen. From respecting others ideologies and upbringing to learning about the struggles of people and how to overcome those problems together. This presentation in my opinion was a lot better than the last presentation due to the fact that everyone is more accustomed to how all the slides work and how the presentation should be done. Lots of things were said and to be quite frank I actually was impacted by a large amount of the presentations. Thanks to this presentation I have been able to see past my struggles and try to help others around me whenever capable. Also, I actually started to try new ethnicities dishes like the restaurant 107 tase in Miami lakes which makes some absolutely outstanding cheesy fried noodles.
